Communications

The Communications staff at the City of Oneonta Police Department is comprised of three full time dispatchers and one part time dispatcher.  Police Dispatchers are responsible for receiving and dispatching members of the patrol division to all calls for service which come in to our agency.  In essence the dispatchers are considered first responders for all complaints; they are trained to perform their duties in critical situations with efficiency, calmness, and professionalism.

Dispatchers are also responsible for entering all reported complaints, calls for service and radio traffic into the department computer system.  Additionally, they perform numerous office tasks for the agency, monitor the police downtown surveillance camera system, make inquiries through the NYSPIN computer system, and do related work as needed.

The Oneonta Police Department communications staff is supervised by the Chief of Police and Lieutenant.  Training for newly hired dispatchers is supervised by Senior Dispatcher Lisa Prush.  Dispatchers continually receive further training through the Division of Criminal Justice Services.
