Fire Fighter Assistance Team
The City of Oneonta FAST, along with 3 local departments, respond to structure fires that each team’s department is involved in and are requested mutual aid to. As an Operating Procedure, all teams deploy together to responses, to provide the safest deployment of the team members on any rescues that arise. |

Tactical EMS Team
Three fire fighter/emts have been trained in police tactic responses to enable them to accompany the local, and some adjacent, police SRT teams. At least 1 Tactical Medic is present on all City Police SRT responses. |
American Heart Association CPR Instructors
In 2002 nine members received training in CPR instruction to enable them to train others in the proper ways to do CPR. Since that time these individuals train a number of groups and individuals annually. |

EMS Bike Team
Nine members make up this team. Training from University Police Bike Team Instructors enabled the team to be activated. Team responses include several large events in the district and annual events. The team assists the department in these events to make treating and responses quicker and easier. |
New York State Fire Instructors
Several members are involved at our County level, and a neighboring County, to instruct State Level Fire Training Course. They are an important resource that enables the department to meet all training requirements and updates annually.

New York State EMS Instructors
Two members are State Certified Medical Instructors that teach classes for our County Emergency Services. These fire fighters are a valued resource that enables the fire department to stay at the leading edge within our medical services field. |
County Hazardous Materials Team
Captain Patrick Pidgeon serves the City of Oneonta on this team. He is currently the Chief of this county wide response team. Captain Pidgeon’s increasing knowledge and resource contact abilities in the area of hazardous materials is an extremely vital resource to the City of Oneonta Fire Department.

Fire Prevention
Members annually visit the five local elementary schools to speak to 1200 children on various fire safety and fire hazard topics. The local Fraternity and Sorority Houses also receive Fire Safety Talks annually to enable them to have housing permits for off campus living. Annually, the fire department receives visits from area grade school children and organizations. |
Fire Investigators
Several members have been New York State Certified as Fire Arson Investigators. These members are responsible for determining causes of non apparent fire scenes for the department. Members work side by side with both local and state agencies to investigate and make determinations on fires.

New York State Urban Search and Rescue Team
Four members of the department are associated with the state team in varies job titles. Each member receives annual training in specialized job fields and have been activated several times for varies responses with the team. |
Incident Management Assistance Team
The Department’s Chief is an active member of this team. Team is a National Resource of the State Emergency Management Office. Members are deployed to assist local and state agencies in managing Incident Command areas during major disasters. This team was deployed in 2005 to both Florida (hurricanes) and Mississippi (Katrina).

BOCES Fire Science Internship
Being the only paid department in the immediate area, the local BOCES have sent students interested in the Fire Science Field to Intern for their senior year with the department. A student, or students as the case in 2004-05, spends several days a week in the station working side by side with the members. Interns respond on all EMS and Fire calls. |
