As Fire Chief, I extend a welcome to you as a visitor to the City of Oneonta Fire Department web site.  Our department is proud to provide you with this small glimpse of our department and all the good things we do and accomplish. 

The City of Oneonta is a  small city located in upstate New York, in the “Leatherstocking Region” of Central New York. Our fire department is a  paid career department consisting of 26 full-time career firefighters and approximately 25 part-time firefighters. The Oneonta Fire Department provides the citizens of our City and region with a full range of emergency services including: fire suppression, advanced life support emergency medical care and transport, technical rescue for high angle, confined space and fast water rescue situations, and a strong fire prevention and public education program. The fire department also serves as our city’s emergency management agency.  

The fire department’s most beneficial resource is it’s personnel.  The firefighters of the City of Oneonta Fire Department are some of the best firefighters anywhere.  As Chief, I am extremely proud of my firefighters, what they do every day, and their accomplishments. Firefighters of this department serve as New York State Fire Instructors, members of the New York State Urban Search and Rescue Team, the New York State Incident Management Assistance Team, serve on EMS councils and boards, and participate in many community organizations or boards. 

The Oneonta Fire Department provides professional fire, EMS, and all-round public safety services to an ever-growing variety of emergency situations and an increasing permanent and transient population. The trend of increase in the number of requests for our services continues. The Oneonta Fire Department truly represents a service provided by the City of Oneonta to our residents and visitors that; “people just can’t live without."
