The City of Oneonta Fire
Department has a 27 member career staff, supported by a paid
part-time/call staff. Our immediate district radius is approximately
fourteen miles serving both the City and Town of Oneonta. With in our
jurisdiction OFD covers two colleges; Hartwick College and SUNY Oneonta,
A.O.Fox Hospital, several assisted living facilities, a section of
Interstate 88, the C.P. rail road, the Susquehanna River, many
commercial businesses and residential homes.
In addition to emergency
fire and ambulance responses; the department handles all technical
responses with in the district as well as providing EMS transport
services as requested. OFD is part of the county mutual aid system and
is ready to serve our neighboring departments when called upon.
Our members are a highly
motivated well trained group which is involved in many specialized
technical areas; along with being involved with many teaching aspects in
both the fire and medical fields.

firefighters stand prepared to serve our residents, those who work here
as well as those who choose to visit our city 24/ 7/ 365.
Over the last several
years, the number of department responses has steadily increased. In
2010 OFD responded to 2866 requests for assistance; a 5.6% increase over
2009. In 2011 first quarter statistics have us responding to 95 more
calls than the first quarter in 2010. With out a doubt City firefighters
are “on the Job”.
